DeCaLiBron Loop Reopened!

Post by yardman »

I got off the phone earlier this morning with John Reiber, the owner of the private lands on the DeCaLiBron loop. Thanks to work producing and posting liability signage by Colorado Fourteeners Initiative and the Colorado Mountain Club, he is pleased to reopen the peaks to hiking use effective immediately.

1. Remember, the summit of Bross remains closed due to multiple fractional owners, not all of whom have given permission to cross their land.
2. Stay on the designated trail only. No shortcuts or alternate routes.
3. Use LNT in all forms, including packing out trash, poop, etc.
4. Don't enter mine openings or climb on/around legacy mining structures or damage survey posts.
5. Leash dogs at all times.
6. Generally act as if you acknowledge that you're on someone else's private land.

Remember: Access is a privilege, not a right. CFI will continue to work with the owner in the future to do all we can to ensure the peaks remain open to hiking and climbing. There might be further changes starting next year. Do your part to help keep the peaks open.

Thanks for the info!

As for the other routes (eg. Lincoln Amphitheater), I've heard those are actually off-limits and private property, is that the case? If so, should there be an alert on those routes here that they're private property?

My understanding is that the landowner has granted access only for the standard loop route that starts and ends at Kite Lake. All these other routes might involve climbing on his lands, for which he has not given permission, as well as other potential landowners. These areas laced with patented mining claims (i.e. private land) are a thorny wicket. This massif is certainly the most problematic in terms of many landowners.
