Fingers crossed that they (and I) reported prematurely and everyone is okay

Alamosa Volunteer Search and Rescue has suspended the search due to hazards. Thank you AVSAR for your risk and efforts.

Thank you SAR for all your efforts. Some of those photos give me goosebumps when I see the terrain you were trying to search/comb. Hope the SAR member that is injured recovers soon. Praying for a good outcome.Teresa

Damn, not the exact news I was hoping for. SAR looks like they gave it their best efforts in an attempt to locate him.

Justiner do you know if there would be any reason to do the Blanca/Little Bear traverse from Lily.

I can't really imagine anyone doing that on purpose.

Naw, makes little sense to me. Going the other way is quite rare, but would be more fun I would think,

One obvious reason (well, obvious to me anyway) would be to combine any of the awesome ridges that extend off of the Blanca massif. E.g., combine the 4th and 5th great 14er traverses (Lindsey -> Blanca -> LB), or do the reverse California to LB trip. These kinds of adventures aren't talked about much on this site because they are way too difficult for most 14er hikers, but some of us are inspired by nutty ideas like this.

It's my understanding Vaughn set out without any sort of SAT comm or phone. He did not provide a planned route to anyone. Nobody knows what he is wearing. And if not for locating his car at a TH, there would have been nothing to go on besides "The Sangres". Unfortunately this is your proverbial needle in a haystack. Searches for lost parties WITH a functional, transmitting sat device can be daunting because of the nature of mountainous terrain.

Hope by some miracle he's found alive. Stranger things have happened.
