14er finisher gift?

Post by jbogardy »

My husband finished the 14ers this year and I’d love to get him something for Christmas to commemorate his accomplishment. I don’t have photos from every one of them, nor dates or details on all of them and I’d prefer not to ask him so this can be a surprise. Does anyone have any brilliant ideas for a gift that would appropriately recognize this achievement?

Yup....how about one of these 14er Finisher medallions?

Ken Adams is a great man and mountaineer here in Colorado who started this little business to teach his son how to run a little business. Here is the link:

Blessings on you for wanting to honor your husband and his accomplishment! He's got a good gal supporting him!!

Great idea! He decided to just go for the 54 though so I can’t very well get the medallion for all 58. :(

He should get or have received a finisher certificate from the CMC. Perhaps you could call them get a another copy of it and get a nice frame / mount done for him for a wall display.

Found this on Etsy with a quick search. Doesn’t mention 54 vs 58. Probably more on other sites if you look around.

I was given the book 14,000 Feet: A Celebration of Colorado's Highest Mountains that was signed by all of my climbing friends that joined me on my completion summit. It was a great gift to receive.

I bought Longs with engraving on it for a wedding anniversary. Maybe his finisher or most memorable peak with something engraved could be a nice gift.

I received one of these with my finisher on it (Mt of the Holy Cross) in 2013. Love it!
The guy who makes them is a member on this site, I believe it's RobertKay.

If he is luck as I was to use one pair of boots for all the fourteens, bronze them, put them on a plaque (very nice book ends!). I had a silversmith make me engraved inserts with my name , etc.
...let me remind you of the pilgrim who asked for an audience with the Dalai Lama.
He was told he must first spend five years in contemplation. After the five years, he was ushered into the Dalai Lama's presence, who said, 'Well, my son, what do you wish to know?' So the pilgrim said, 'I wish to know the meaning of life, father.'
And the Dalai Lama smiled and said, 'Well my son, life is like a beanstalk, isn't it?'
