14er Finisher E_A_Marcus_949!!

Post by greenonion »

So proud of Emily Marcus who just finished the 58 today, in-style on S Maroon!!!! And so grateful to be her friend and hiking partner on a couple of peaks the last two years. Everyone should have a chance to hike with Emily or someone like her. We have all been the beneficiary of many of her helpful conditions reports. She is super prepared in all ways ranging from studying routes ahead of time, figuring out routes while in the field, gear, fitness, super-level head, and most importantly... positivity and encouragement throughout the day. She is also a very committed and compassionate animal lover :-D I have been so impressed getting to know Emily on the trail, and by watching her progress these last two years as she plowed through 23 new 14ers. Enhancing that accomplishment of 23 in two years includes Capitol, Little Bear, Snowmass, group of 4 in Chi Basin (45 miles in and out from Purgatory), El D/Big Wilson traverse, Sneffels SW ridge, KC north ridge, Pyramid, and both Bells, among others including 13ers.

As we descended N Maroon in July and arrived at the top of the chimney, I must admit I was looking around for the 3rd class variation (difficult to locate BTW, and never did). We made it up the chimney earlier just fine, but that descent was messing with me. As Emily started the descent into the chimney she matter-of-factly stated "well, this is absolutely terrifying". Aside from that statement you never would have known it. She used her level head and slowly and deliberately got into it and worked it. Boom, done! She's just like that - unflappable and prepared.

So happy to be your friend and climbing partner on at least a couple of peaks, and I look forward to more! Way to rock it, Emily!!

Excellent work Emily, a well-deserved accomplishment for a wonderful climber. =D> Hope to hear about your adventures on the 13ers and your future objectives. Whoever brought that sweet red backpack up N Maroon must be super impressed.
