“Cthulhu 2008” finishes the Centennials!

Post by Wildernessjane »

Congratulations to “Cthulhu 2008” (a.k.a. trail runner extraordinaire, tele master or simply “Andy”) on finishing the Centennials on Oklahoma this past Sunday! He finished both Roach’s original Centennials list as well as the LiDAR list. I met Andy on a winter ascent of Mount Yale (my first winter 14er summit) many years ago and we’ve been friends ever since. In fact, Andy and his wife are two of my most favorite people. Admittedly, I’ve probably distracted him from his goal of finishing the Centennials on more than one occasion. Anyhow, Andy finished in style - music, champagne, good food - surrounded by friends. I expect Andy will continue to get after it and continue to set new goals and objectives for himself. Nice job, Andy!

Little known fact: Andy was actually the originator of the “purple snowflake” idea (though Bryon actually pitched the idea)

Thanks Jane!

Thank also to all of my dear friends who helped me with this goal, the random partners I connected with via this amazing community (summitwolf (Amy), ShadyHater69 (DJ CottonCramp) and sgladbach (Steve took me up my first winter 14er) as well as Cthulhu 2016 (my wife Becca who has done 43 of the 100 with me despite her fear of heights).

I'm looking forward to focusing on Purple Snowflakes now that the Centennials are in the bag! :-D

Now that’s a goal I can get behind! I assume there will be many ski descents involved?

Hey Andy,

Did you notice that you didn't even get a buzz after having your celebratory drink? I thought altitude amplified these feelings but instead it seems to sublimate.

Congrats! This really is the best time of year on the forums when climbers achieve their yearly goals. And thanks for the purple snowflake insignia. Let shoulder season begin!
