Backcountry ski partner near Denver (6/1-6/2)

Post by jburton16 »

Hey all,

Living in the denver area this summer and trying to take advantage of the snowpack. I have pretty significant backcountry experience around Salt Lake and Jackson Hole, but it's my first time in CO. Looking for a partner or two for this weekend on a project near Denver (seems like Bierstadt or Evans would be a decent option?). Advice on what peaks to tackle this time of year would also be appreciated.

Let me know!

What kind of terrain are you looking to ski on the way down?

This is a bit of an unusual ski season, more like late April than late May. Check out the Trip Report section for ideas. Just click on advanced search and choose “ski only” and check mark only April and May. (They’re highlighted golden). I have a ton of ski TR’s up.

Bierstadt from Guanella can be *good* but not usually. I got it in powder once. Car shuttling Evans is a blast -when the road is open.

Would love a challenging ski, but not picky since I don't know the area. Definitely down for something more ambitious than Bierstadt if that's an option. Just has to be within an hour or two from Denver so I can get started early

I thought the "tuning fork" on Torreys peak is an absolute blast. Access may get an issue at this point.
1st time we went up the standard route.
2nd time was solo, and I ascended dead dog.
It's a great 3,000 ft. Desent in to grizzly gulch.
