Ski near Leadville
Just getting into the backcountry scene and am looking for some good stuff to ski in the Leadville/Sawatch/Summit area. Any advice from good lines to good guidebooks and anything in between is appreciated. I'm also interested in skiing some of the 14ers in that area, and any advice or stories is also welcome. Thanks!

The Dawson guide books are good for skiing the 14ers.

Just be aware that some of the lines on there are "unconfirmed," meaning I picked what might work by looking at the map and have never heard of people skiing them. But all the lines are conveniently sorted by season so they're separated anyways.

Other than Dawson as mentioned above, I've found these to be helpful for initial planning and ideas. Some overlap between them, but nice to have different perspectives. I also like the blend between low angle, early season options through steep spring stuff. Full disclosure, I haven't skied a 14er yet, but I have done a few of the other lines mentioned in these books.

I hope you've been enjoying our book (blue one on the right)! OP, there are quite a few routes in the area for you to check out. Some of them aren't even on that amazing caltopo fileHPIvelocity97 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 9:51 pm Other than Dawson as mentioned above, I've found these to be helpful for initial planning and ideas.
