"I made a lot of amateur mistakes," Jamison said. "I didn't take water purification tablets, I didn't take a charger for my phone, or a simple GPS (device). I shouldn't have worn all-gray clothes. ... I should have stuck to the script of what I was going to do. The mountain is not going anywhere if you have to go back."

No.
He has not learned his lessons.

"didn't take water purification tablets" as a lesson #1?
You can drink any water in an emergency and you would get sick (if at all) only in a few days after you are already back to civilization.

"I didn't take a charger for my phone, or a simple GPS (device)" as lessons #2 and #3?
His main errors were not having good knowledge of these summits, not having a map and a compass and not having sufficient navigation skills.
He has not even mentioned them.
Because of this, I totally support his decision "to stick to the Appalachian Trail from now on".

Having said that, if you have a really bad sense of direction and simply not paying attention, I guess it could happen. Well, it did happen, so there's that. lol

Anyway, he's alive and that's great news. Happy he's okay in the end.
I'd bet in all your time on earth you've screwed up plenty of things far easier to not screw up than getting turned around in the mountains. Reserve your judgement for yourself, and make sure we know so we can make fun of you.
Sure. I can give you some stories so that you can make fun of me. I have a lot of stories. Doesn't change the fact that this guy screwed up bad. So what. He's alive and that's all that counts. I have a feeling that he's prob telling everyone, "I'm an idiot for going down the wrong way." It's not like I'm condemning him to hell or anything. lol. Lighten up man.
