This is really tough losing a good friend. Sad day. I have known Don for about 11-12 years. Met him in the CMC.

Don was a great mountaineer. Great father and great friend. Not only finishing the Centennials in CO. He also did many international trips. Denali being his biggest accomplishment. And of course Kilimanjaro. He has motivated and encouraged me to go out and enjoy the mountains in Colorado and abroad. I hope I am still hiking at that age.

I will miss you Don.

I didn’t know Don, but we talked about trip planning a common peak here and there, including Antero from Raspberry Gulch.

It really stinks to have to add a compatriot to the list of fallen. I hope life was all he wanted and he suffered little through all he lived. Be well, sir.

This is really sad to hear. I got to know Don a little bit on Mount Morrison earlier this year when we bumped into each other on the trail a few times. I was so impressed with Don - a 71 year old man carrying weight up mount Morrison. And more importantly how friendly he was. We discussed what we were training for and previous trips, and Don gave me a lot of encouragement for my upcoming Denali trip. He indicated Denali was the climb he was most proud of. He was very excited about his upcoming trip to climb Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn this summer with our friend Jeff. Wish I could have gotten to know Don better. RIP Don.

Sorry to Don’s family and friends for their loss. Their loss was a loss for all of us who didn’t have the opportunity to meet him. From the anecdotes and photographs, Don really knew how to live and be in the moment. My sincere and heartfelt condolences.
