It says from the latest article that he got separated from his group at the 'top of the saddle at 13,000 feet while descending'. https://www.aspentimes.com/news/crews-r ... ter-drone/
It seems like he got past all of the tricky Class 3 and 4 terrain, and it's just an annoying Class 2 slog back to the amphitheater. Maybe he ending up going down the wrong side of the col? It seems surprising that you'd run into trouble once you're back on the Class 2 terrain.

I could see someone slipping and falling on that thousand feet of suck from the saddle into the amphitheater. It's really Steep and loose. I am surprised that if something happened there he wouldn't have been seen and heard. I agree with you, FC, that if he got to the saddle it's a possibility that he went down the wrong side which is how he got lost. I hope he is found soon and well.

Hoping for the very best outcome. The other possibility is that he made it through the Amphitheater and got back into the trees. There are spots on the trail that if you stumbled you could find yourself in some thick brush and growth. Of course, I know that the Search and Rescue team members know of all the possibilities. He, his family, and his friends are in my prayers.

Have to admit, I can’t wait to hear this story
Re: Missing Climber : Pyramid Peak 9/15/19
Awesome news!!! After so many heart breaking stories each year, this makes me smile knowing that others provided food and that he was walking out on trail. Best lost hiker story in my recent memory.

Re: Missing Climber : Pyramid Peak 9/15/19
I climbed Pyramid Peak today and there was a helicopter flying up and down East Maroon Creek numerous times. I am guessing it was for this missing climber. If that was the case, it would seem he went down from the saddle to the east instead of back to the west into the amphitheater. I am glad to hear he was found alive.
