Bugs at Willow Lake

Post by GaryBroome6 »

Anyone have a bug spray you swear by? I understand the bugs can get bad camping at Willow Lake. Hoping someone has experience using something specific with success. Thanks!

I usually get eaten alive by mosquitos. I've had the best luck with Jungle Juice, the higher the concentration of DEET the more effective.

When you use DEET that's this strong, be careful about getting it on plastics including synthetic fabrics like polypropylene. I treat my outdoor clothes with Permethrin and then apply DEET to any exposed skin. When going to really buggy areas, I also like to bring a headnet.

Bring a head net and keep skin covered. A bigger concern are the ground squirrels.
Hang everything! A few weeks ago, a squirrel family ate thru and pooped in my buddies tent. Little suckers pooped everywhere. I got lucky, was in a hammock.

Bugs can be bad there, but I was there recently and they were mostly gone.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.
