West Fork to Courthouse

Post by cnlevan »

Can anyone tell me about the road clearance/access for Courthouse Mountain on West Fork road? A friend of mine asked me if she could take her low clearance Subaru, but I didn't have an answer for her. I've been having a difficult time trying to independently find this info.

Thanks!

Yes, from Ridgway the road is 2WD for a long ways up through the basin, turning 4WD approximately directly east of Courthouse Mountain itself. I can't say what the road is like from US 50 past Silver Jack Reservoir, but from Ridgway it's 2WD to where you need to go.

It is also easy 2wd from the north approach from Cimarron (between Gunni and Montrose) past Silver Jack Reservoir. I had my Corolla up there twice last year. Zero problems.

I have driven in from 50 to get to the Middle Cimarron trailhead and that road was in good shape too from what I remember (I left it by Silver Jack Reservoir). I have also driven over Owl Creek Pass to get to Courthouse and concur with Supra that your friend's car will be fine. Its a little washboard, but no clearance issues. The only part I can't account for first hand is the stretch from Silver Jack to the turnoff for for the road to Courthouse.
