federal park, forest & road closures Oct 1?

Post by peter303 »

Its silly season in Washington DC again. I think without an imminent deadline like an election or disaster the politicians will proceed with their partial government shutdown next Friday.

As I recall last time Rocky Mountain National Park stayed open, but did not collect entrance fees. The campground, visitors center and restrooms all closed. Trail Ridge is considered an essential road for commuters and first responders, so stayed open until its snow closure mid-October. I doubt if they will manage the timed reservation system in its final ten days of the season. No new backcountry permits.

Other locations may be more restricted. Seasonal forest campgrounds like around Lake Dillion will probably have their closure dates advanced a few days to Oct 1. Ditto for federal roads like Summit Lake and Brainard Lake.

So if you plan to visit federal lands and facilities next weekend, double check the closure news.
