Half Moon Creek stream crossing
I plan to cross Half Moon Creek at 39.15000, -106.45580 by foot next weekend.
I'd like to know if I'll need to plan on getting my feet wet.
Thank you

recent TR for Oklahoma says "nope" but my group's experience 2 weeks ago was "yep"

I mean I would expect up to your ankles at most. I crossed that damn thing in May and was surprised to find it almost to my hips!

Not sure where those GPS coordinates are at exactly. I did Oklahoma on 7/6, if you are crossing Halfmoon down low to do, say, French/Casco/Frasco, feet will get wet. However, what that trip report meant, I suspect, is that if you are doing Oklahoma, you stay to the right of it and hop on the Massive trail and climb, then head off trail even higher and cross Halfmoon Creek up where near it starts and there it is fairly easy to cross without getting feet wet. There are logs across where you bushwhack across it; ergo, no wet feet.

Oklahoma you cross much farther upstream of his GPS coordinate where the stream is much smaller.two lunches wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:23 am recent TR for Oklahoma says "nope" but my group's experience 2 weeks ago was "yep"
I'd agree you are likely to get wet. Just downstream of where 110J crosses, the streams braids into 3 sections. That's probably your best chance of staying dry.

Re: Half Moon Creek stream crossing
Oh is the destination Oklahoma? I barely remember a stream crossing there. If you're going up Iron Mike towards Casco or wherever, you hit South Half Moon Creek which surprisingly may be running a little deeper. It's so brief though, that this time of year, you can just take your shoes off and wade across.

did that on 7/3, logs were too icy early in the morning to cross. ergo, wet feet.Otzi wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:40 am Not sure where those GPS coordinates are at exactly. Re: Half Moon Creek stream crossing
I made it (2022-07-29).
Thank you everyone for your advice.
Water was at my calf, width ~15 feet.
Flow required only some concentration to stay upright.
Used flip-flops to cross.
