Seeing some conflicting comparisons between these two. I understand they are both (basically) horrible roads that require good 4wd, clearance, and AT tires.
For anyone who is familiar with both, how do they compare?
We drove up to Hermit Pass earlier this year and it was about 1 hour & 45 minutes of bone-jarring, slow going driving that nearly wiped us out before we even set foot on the trail to hike.
Is Cloverdale similar? Worse? The rating on this site is a 3 where Hermit is a 4, but some have said it's even worse so I am not sure what to plan for.
TIA!

Re: Hermit Pass Rd vs Cloverdale Basin
No direct experience with Cloverdale, but from what I've heard and read, it's similar to but worse than Hermit Pass. Popular road for rock crawlers.
Re: Hermit Pass Rd vs Cloverdale Basin
The road up to Cloverdale Basin was definitely rougher than Hermit Pass road. It's been a few years since I've been up either. But I had a four-door Wrangler Rubicon at the time, and it was challenging to get all the way up to road's end in Cloverdale Basin.
