night sky pictures
I was up near sherman doing a night climb a few days back and happened upon the clearest, crispest night that i have ever seen. Walked away with some fabulous shots

I was totally lucky with this shot!
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Re: night sky pictures
Those are great pictures! JA_son27, I'm not photographer, but is that a pic from a camera with the lense left open for some time, or just a quick click? If so, how long does the shutter have to be open to capture shots like these?

Re: night sky pictures
I'm not ja_son27. But they are long exposure shots (left open) generally if the skys are good a 30 second pic is enough (thats what mine are) but to get a brighter image you might need anywhere up to ten minutes. Only downside is the earth rotates, so the longer the pic is then you will get trails (where each star looks like a line). This picture (though from the city, denver) is a 2 and a half minute exposure to show the nebula.
That is a phenominal shot Ja_son!

Re: night sky pictures
Nice shot livetomax! Thanks for the info, I guess I need to get a better camera. Clear nights in the high county are truly amazing!

I've got a Sony point and shoot type. Not too sure on model, but it has a few different settings. It has a night one, but I can't get the quality pics you guys are shooting. I'll have to play around with it at night and see what I can do with it.

It was a 20 second exposure, though I wish I had been using a tripod.

Re: night sky pictures
Sony's good, not sure though if point and shoots can do long exposures, I know that one of my friends was trying to figure it out but not sure what happened.
