Point and shoot, with advanced options. I guess.
The camera you pointed out that's on sale is bigger in size than I want too. I would prefer a camera that won't be too bulky.

Thanks for the responses so far.
These might fit you bill, then. I love Cybershots.

Not sure what kind of "advanced" options you're looking for, but all of these have the "sweep panorama" setting -- which I think is pretty goddamn awesome.

Which camera are you talking about?
I think he has the one you are asking about. It's Paul...El Chupacabra. PM him for sure if you want his input. He'll let you know.

I've been using the Canon Elph cameras for hiking pics. They're inexpensive, light and user-friendly. I just picked up the Canon 300hs (Amazon-$150). So far it's awesome. I can use it with my gloves, you don't have to fiddle with settings to get a good shot and it has great video quality. Another advantage is its size- smaller than a deck of cards. The one minor issue i've noticed is that the battery has problems as the temps approach 0 degrees farenheit. I solved that by keeping it in an inner pocket though.

I've been using a Sony Cybershot DSC-H55 14.1 megapixels 10x zoom for at least a couple of years, maybe longer, I can't remember. It's takes pretty good pictures, but in looking at other pictures, I don't think it's that great in comparison with say a Canon. I use the manual settings alot, otherwise I get too much light and not much blue in the blue skies. The 720p video camera works great, but the next one I get will be 1080p. I never use the sweep panorama. I tried it once but didn't like it. I just take a few pictures and use Arcsoft Panorama Maker to stick the photos together. Here is an example:

La Sals from Gold Knob Pano

Here's one of my better photos I took with it using the manual settings as the sun was going down. Kane was standing next to me and taught me how to use the manual settings. The camera did a pretty good job.

Here is Kane's photo taken at the same time (almost).
