I know exactly where that photo was taken. It is a long haul completely off trail and requires a very serious backpacking effort with much elevation gain and route-finding. A friend of mine who has climbed every peak in the Gores described it as a brutal effort in reaching. So, maybe not what you are looking for. Access to the Gores is trickier, but there are some awesome hikes from the south side that are relatively short and rewarding with good elevation gain...Booth and Deluge Lakes, Eccles Pass come to mind among many others.

Thanks Axeman. Would you share what peak I am seeing in this photo? I'll take your word for it as far as the difficulty. But I definitely don't plan on making this my only trip and when I come back out, it may be with people that are more adventurous so getting here would be a welcome challenge.

For the closer to Denver options, I would also throw in Indian Peaks (like Crater Lake) and especially Wild Basin, with plenty of lakes, often less people, and established camping sites.
