Thanks for the comments and interest. I guess I will continue to upload these "portraits" until someone tells me not to.
To clear up some questions, I intend to keep the collection together until it is finished and hopefully afterward.
Inspiration to start this project came from two directions. One was the discovery of the basic approach to painting portraits of mountains while painting other Colorado mountains. (Spanish Peaks and the Ten Mile range)
Secondly, I have become convinced that lots of 14ers are not as photogenic as the Maroon Bells, Wilson Peak or Mt Sneffels, and it makes sense to try to make an image that improves on available photos.
All of the 14ers are outstanding. At least the people who climb them think so. The fact that not all have the pictures to prove it is mostly due to inadequate perspectives from which to view these mountains.

Re: Paintings of 14ers
Paintings of the Maroon Bells, Castle peak, and Snowmass mountain. Of these three, the Bells are the most familiar photographically because of their well know popular view point. In this painting that perspective has been raised, and the result is a change in the apparent nature of these two peaks. From higher up the Bells are less bell-like and more fang-like. This is due to the foreshortening that happens to any subject when viewed from below. Most Colorado's peaks begin to look steeper and more impressive when viewed from higher up. Hopefully this jibes with their true nature as experienced by the people that climb them.

Re: Paintings of 14ers
I apologize for the file size of the previous 3 pictures. I will try to remember to reduce these pictures to a viewable size. Here are three more. Mount Sherman, Mt Elbert and another picture of Challenger Point / Kit Carson. Sherman is one of the best examples of a mountain that is hard to make look impressive. When viewed from South Park it looks more like a plateau than a mountain. The new picture of Challenger Point can be compared with the first one I posted to see how different these mountains look from different angles.
