Fall Colors 2020

Post by PikaSteve »

Looking forward to seeing everyone's photos.

A few leaves had fallen onto the trail above Maroon Lake and hints of color were starting to show below Pyramid Peak on Friday.

Some colors already showing outside Silverton. Some trees already browning up as well, likely from the drought.

I've driven over Kenosha Pass a couple of times this summer, and that large hillside of aspen on the east side of the pass looks pretty damaged or dead or dried out or something bad. Anyone else noticed? I haven't stopped, but I don't see any green up there.

How are the colors in Aspen & Pagosa? Planning to get a BNB around the weekend of the 27th. If anyone wants to join and hang out with XterraRob and some other cool people, HMU.

Looking forward to that. No changes in Missouri yet to speak of.
Could be a good year though; not a terribly hot summer and decent amounts of rain.

To get an idea of Aspen conditions, the Roundshot cams are great tools. Looks like very minimal color changes so far up the Bells road.

Thats a good idea.
I've tried using the CO DOT cams to peep the leaves, but they tend to point them directly at a road and not the trees

Here are a couple more that are helpful. Crested Butte, just the last camera of the several images they have up, that one does a time lapse. And McClure Pass. Both are showing everything completely green. The Aspen area usually seems to turn around the 23rd, so by early next week I think there will be some color up there.

For CB area, the Crested Butte Tourism Office (?) has a web page updated at least weekly on the status of fall colors including with pictures! Its a great resource.
