Anyone know about current fall foliage conditions around Buena Vista? Thinking of going there this weekend for some fall hikes to see the fall colors.

On the Road just to the north of Silverton. Prime colors will come early to the San Juans.

In the holy cross wilderness, about a third to half of the aspens have turned. The tundra is already at peak.

Wild Basin had nice some sections of color as did the Allenspark area this past weekend. Some vibrant stands in the Ozuel burn scar. Maybe peak next weekend?

Hey everyone. I don’t have Facebook or other social media apps so it’s hard for me to meet people. I want to visit the San Juan Mountain Range this Sunday through Wednesday and I was wondering if a) anybody wants to join me or b) if it feels safe to go alone for the first time. I know there’s usually tons of people on the trail during July and August, but not quite sure about the beginning of October. Thanks!

I (female) just returned (to Austin) from a 10-day road trip to SW CO. I hiked 6-9 miles in different parts of the San Juans on several days that I was there. I was by myself and hardly saw anyone on any trails but did not feel unsafe anywhere. It was my first time hiking and/or being there. I assume there would be fewer people in Oct than now but I generally feel safer/better with fewer people and dogs, though seeing a person occasionally is somewhat comforting in unfamiliar places.

OB Fall Colors:
The colors seemed to be much more vibrant on my drive south from Lake City on Sunday than when I drove up. I didn't have time to stop and take photos as I had to drive for 3+ hrs after my Handies hike. But here is one that I found very attractive. Somewhere west of Walsenburg along US-160 :
