2021 Fall Color Tracking
It's that time of year again!
I tried to piggyback the existing thread into our annual Fall Color Tracking thread, but I wasn't able to change the title. We had a better winter than 2018, but if I had to guess I'd say it could be another early year for colors, similar to 2018 & 2020, with how dry this spring and summer were in some parts.
The highest reaches of aspens were starting to turn on southern and eastern aspects up at Winfield this past weekend.

Missouri Gulch is about 30% turned. Early year for sure. Tundra is all red. Best air quality in recent memory.

Re: 2021 Fall Color Tracking
Hi all, Great thread!!
Any suggestions for a 5-6 hour hike/summit this weekend? The party is pretty strong, and we are looking forward to our first weekend of "leaf-peeping" - haha!
We are split between Golden/Boulder?
Any insights would be very much appreciated!

Re: 2021 Fall Color Tracking
Winds around Vail/Avon/Edwards blew a TON of leaves off last night but there is still some yellow at higher elevations.

Good to know! Thanks!
Re: 2021 Fall Color Tracking
Yesterday did the typical tour - some nice sparks of color while heading west just before Kenosha Pass but the pass itself was a dud - it's largely turned but not vibrant at all.
From Kenosha all the way to Como and beyond the whole entire valley was a parking lot of people trying to get up to Kenosha.
Going westbound we shot past all of them and went up Boreas instead where we only encountered maybe a couple dozen cars across the entire pass but lots of good patches of color. Probably won't last much longer...

Re: 2021 Fall Color Tracking
I didn't take any pictures, but this past weekend (Sept 25th) the I-70 corridor near the Bakerville exit, the Grays Pk TH road, and up to Loveland Pass are completely turned. Lots of gold and orange in the area.
The weekend of Sept 18th, the Lake City area was probably about 30% turned and looking like it would be prime 10-14 days after that date.

Re: 2021 Fall Color Tracking
It was a good season. Hope to see some other people posting. I had a few good fall outings, mostly in the Alpine so saw a lot of leaves from afar. Here's a few from a short outing last weekend, Vedauwoo, WY. Really enjoyed seeing the leaves in proximity with some pretty dramatic rock formations.

Re: 2021 Fall Color Tracking
All my pictures are too big to post (not sure how to change that without using an image resizer and that's far too much work), but there are still areas that are popping! LCW particularly up above Bailey and wellington lake, has pockets of peak colors still. Not for too much longer, but you can find it if you look!
