I have a similar issues where the pictures show up and they're very small now, both in online and offline mode with my M8. Did an un/reinstall- same issue.

^The app author, Nathan, has been notified and I'm sure he'll look into it when he gets a chance. Thanks for the post!

The last time I asked Nathan for an ETA was in December and he said he'd be working on it soon. I emailed him again this morning. That's really all I can say since I don't have the ability to fix any issues with it directly.

I'm sorry for the hassle

Can we get a data API, Bill? Doesn't need to be free. You could charge based on the number of requests. This is something I feel strongly about as a developer and as an open data / open source proponent.

We could do a lot of really cool things with 14ers.com data. Exciting geospatial web interfaces and platforms. Data analysis and synthesis. Open source mobile applications. Etc.

I know it's your lifeblood, but it's crazy seeing things getting further and further divided as AdventureProjects, LoJ, SP, and others continuously expand their platforms and try to solicit this same data. Newcomers to the field or passionate developers basically can't contribute ANYTHING because of how important the data is to the platform itself. The whole point is to avoid scenarios like this, where the mobile app is limbo for months because the sole developer hasn't been able to implement a fix for scaling images...When a number of us on the forum could whip up the equivalent application in a matter of days.

Just a thought (well, more of a pipe-dream)...But there's a lot of us out there who really want to help, if only for the pleasure of making everyone's access to information better. After all, we are the consumers of it too.

Regardless, this site is wonderful and you have done a truly excellent job of maintaining it.

Thurs, thank you for the thoughtful post.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this since I created the XML datafeed API, for the apps. It has come down to the fact that I created the route description content and care a great deal about how it is presented to the end-user. I don't want the hassle of having to worry about whether or not developers are presenting my material in a way that I find acceptable. I also didn't want to have to put in place a set of detailed developer guidelines to meet my requirements of displaying the 14ers.com route descriptions AND set up partner agreements to deal with liability, content copyrights, etc.. Just like a printed guidebook, where there's no API, I'm putting my route descriptions out there for public use, in a format I find acceptable.

So, I've chosen not to provide open access to the API. I understand that you'd like to see it made public so developers can create apps using the information but I just can't do it.

I'm sure a lot more could be done than what has been done so far in the apps. But don't forget that only route descriptions and condition reports are included in the current apps and XML API, so there isn't a ton of available data.

Even if I charged for an API, I would still need to set up contracts, respond to API enhancement requests and deal with developers who don't display my data in an acceptable manner. All of this sounds like WORK and I gave that up a long time ago... :)

Thanks for the reply Bill.

Your points are of course the number one issue when it comes to this sort of data, and I totally understand your conservative approach towards managing it. I do indeed know exactly what you are saying, as I developed a web-based snowpack/avalanche hazard forecasting model that I wanted to deploy to the public, and it still in limbo because I can't come up with a solid legal foundation/approach for managing my own risk towards disseminating the data -- you can't just present it, even if it's a free resource. Liability sucks. You have to be VERY careful and thoughtful about how it is presented to the end-user, and how to guide them towards appropriate usage, and that's almost as hard as the actual coding. The way I understand it, that's why SummitPost isn't full wiki style and forces pages to have specific maintainers.

And hey, can't argue with wanting to give yourself more free time.

Cheers :iluvbeer:

FYI all, I uploaded a fix for the tiny photos issue to the Google Play store a few minutes ago, so it should start showing up within a few hours.

Please let me know if there are any bugs or issues with this.

I have a few other things that I want to do with this, but I need to wait until things calm down for me at my day job and with traveling around.
