Since it now involves the merits of our next commander in chief and how experienced they are; think about all those recent guys, not one had any great years of worthy experience. Lastly, do we really need someone in the White House leading this country who doesn't know how many houses he owns. He may actually try to invade Italy, Viet Nam or Turkey because he thinks someone is sleeping in his bed and eaten his porridge. Let's pick someone who will get us excited about this country again.
To be fair, Obama has said (among other things) that properly inflated tires will conserve as much energy as what we can get from drilling (who's driving around on flat tires anyway?), that knowing when a person gains human rights is above his paygrade (how, then can he take any stance on any human rights?), has referred to the Joint Chiefs of Staff as though they are in charge of military operations (they are not, they are an advisory group to the president), and just today claimed that China's infrastructure is "vastly superior" to ours (apparently he doesn't remember a certain earthquake).

Those of us who think he's "lame" think so because we are not convinced by the charming smile and empty platitudes. It seems that everyday he says something that is so completely ignorant, I don't know how he ever became a senator. I don't like McCain either, but Obama scares the crap out of me.

Obama has charisma, and does excite crowds. What I'm afraid of is that all he's good at.
Tun...

We finally broke this thread... :) It is officially "political" now...

Yay politics! with some semblance if science in there earlier...
I'll bite off. Someone that gets you excited about your country again... I would have to say that if you aren't excited about living in this country, and being able to call it your own, you're doing it wrong. Let me think about what I was excited about with regards to my country today...
I woke up this morning, there's the first one. I didn't die in my sleep from a waterborne parasite or malaria or some crappy third world disease. Even better, I wasn't dragged away in the middle of the night by the KGB. From the minute I opened my eyes this morning, I was already excited about my country. Second, I had food in my refrigerator to eat! I don't live in a country where i have to rummage in the streets for a bit to eat first thing in the morning. Our economy allows us to have so much excess, that I was able to eat and have more stuff left in the fridge. Ten minutes awake, I already have two things. Third thing, I went to a job that I love, because I got to choose it. I wasn't assigned to it by some grand socialistic scheme, the likes of which Hilary Clinton pitched several years ago. I went to work and loved every second of it, because I chose the job, I had the right to do so. I had clean air to breathe! It wasn't a smog laden cess pool of air like is seen throughout China. So much in my country to be ecxited about! And I hadn't even had a cup of coffee yet. I wasn't shot in the streets or rounded up and persecuted because of my race or religion. I wasn't blown up by a fanatical suicide bomber. I looked up at my flag, MY flag waving, and was excited about my country. I turned on the news, and was excited, no elated that my country allows open political debate. Political oponents don't end up in prison or dead on a daily basis. We can argue, disagree, and get away with it... Just a few things I was excited about my country for today.
As far as candidates? Weird, I was going to talk about climate change, but here goes. I may be slightly biased in this respect, of course, if you talked to the far left, the likes of which have manifested themselves numerous times already in this topic, who don't think that white, middle class, military officer me should have an opinion, not sure how to end that ramble...
Anyways, candidate!! One candidate, military officer, naval aviator, VOLUNTEERED to serve his country in a time of war, spent more time in a prison cmp than Obama has in the senate, who also never lost faith in his country, is running against a man who had never set foot in a job requiring the slightest hint of self sacrifice. McCain paid his dues long ago, he gave more for his country, this country, which I am sure he has always been excited about, than I would venture to say anyone on this site has and ever will. What had Obama done for his country? Well, he has a horrible senate voting attendance record and spends a crapload of donor money on his campaign, that is his idea of giving to his country... Why is there even a debate? I have a theory, and it will be saved for another time...
Oh yeah, climate change...

You know who scares the crap out of me? John Edwards, thats who. With his pretty boy charms and his smooth southern accent, his easy going charm and that proper demure, oh, he's got to be hiding something. Not just an affair with the video-grapher, but something else, something sinister, something like Manchurian Global. Yeah, thats its, he's really a pawn for a corporation.

This year, as a Arizona resident who already knows which way his state is going to vote for the Presidency, I've decided to throw my vote away. Vote, Green, Vote Nadar! If we don't support his ego, who will, America?

I'll assume the candidate in question can also turn water in to wine, because I'd vote for that.

You may be onto something Jim, so what think ye of this? Just a for instance ...

If some scientist submitted a sample of coal for a Carbon 14 test from the Pennsylvanian Period that is (+) or (-) 300 MY old, and the sample had detectable Carbon 14 in it and an apparent age of 47,000-55,000 years, would you say the test was flawed or faulty?

This thread has really been interesting; many topics, much passion. It is clear the upcoming election has much to do with it, as issues are raised that are timely and provide frank discussion.

Dang, I didn't know Senator McCain was running against George Bush again.

You don't think putting up with ignorant a**holes second guessing everything that you do for 8 years is self sacrifice? I'm not that good of a man!

Beautifully put!!!

I'll add to your imagery... Starting with waking up. I get out bed, and there isn't dirt under my feet (while in a house). I stumble to go pee, and my bathroom is INSIDE the house... I flush my toilet, and the poop goes away.

For those that haven't seen real poverty, they are clueless. We have the best of everything. Our poorest often still have a vehicle, roof over their heads, satellite TV and Xbox. In our country, anyone can get healthcare. As far as charity... Our country gives more than any other country in the world - in existance. We take care of our own, and the rest of the world. SO, for those that think it is "sooo bad here," I tell you, "Go ahead and try to find anything better."

Interesting read, though I don't know why everyone puts a military record on such a high pedistal, like if you didn't serve, it's a mark against you. Clinton didn't serve, and I'd take eight more years of tenure like his over the last eight we've had in a heartbeat.

Besides, the lack of expericence of Obama doesn't phase me in the least. Anyone knows that the President doesn't lead a country alone. . . I'm sure he'll have plenty of folks helping him out.
