Kedrowski: 2017 Throwing rocks
Is it accepted ski mountaineering practice to throw rocks down the couloir you're about to ski to test the snow conditions?
If you follow the one and only Dr. Jon Kedrowski on Instagram, apparently this is his technique (after littering and leaving his card on the summit). In his "Insta-stories" today, he's tossing rocks down the North couloir on Pacific Peak today. I'm sorry, how is this safe? What if there's a party down there that you didn't see??!!

I wish I could post the screenshot but it's too large.

Unbelievable. Even if he thinks there are no parties around, what about the chances of hitting a mountain goat or other wildlife? This guy...

It's OK, he's a doctor in Geology. If the rock was injured, we've got a professional on the scene.
Re: Throwing rocks: Dr Kedrowski
I'm confused. Why not just ski it?

Oh you're right.
I'd like to say, "I don't get this guy", but I do: He likes to show off publicly his poor impulse control - that's it in a nutshell. He's proven that time and again. Posting a video of him trundling down a rock off a steep couloir is kinda par for the course.
He'll love this thread.

Re: Throwing rocks: Dr Kedrowski
If he's trying to clear a slope of an avalanche, that rock would hardly equate to the force on the slope generated by a skier. F=MA, right? Maybe cutting the slope on skis (risky!) But that puny little rock? Funny...

His lies and douche-baggery used to irk me a bit, now I think it's funny.
