CORSAR Card

Post by globreal »

There's been a few rescues in the back country so it's time for a reminder. Do YOU have a current (non-expired) CORSAR card?

If you ask what is that?: Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) Card.

My wife's card (she doesn't even climb) just expired. So, I went to check mine. The date is still good, but it wasn't in my wallet! I had taken it out for a business trip.

Please check....is your card current? Is your card in your wallet or backpack?

Why does it matter if it is in your wallet or backpack?

It helps make our end of the filing easier and quicker. If we rescue anyone who has a CORSAR card (or current hunting/fishing license or ATV registration) and the person has it with them, I'll take a photo of it and be able to start the DOLA reimbursement paperwork while completing the mission file. If the rescued person has a card but does not have it or know where it is then we have to track down the info through DOLA (and that's if it was filed correctly). Thanks to the OP for starting this thread.

Also, on a different note...if you're able to purchase a CORSAR card directly from your local SAR organization it helps that organization with DOLA grant applications. When we apply for certain grants the application is more likely to be accepted if we can show that we have sold many CORSAR cards on our own and promoted them. Either way, everyone please get one.

I just copied my CORSAR number on a small piece of paper that I carry in my wallet, not the copy of the whole card. is that sufficient in case (god forbid) I need any help from SAR?

If you could also include the date of purchase that would help hasten the paperwork on our end. Thanks.

Mine has expired so thanks for the reminder to get a new one.
I keep mine in my small first aid kit that's in my pack.

Just another option in this digital age, I keep a PDF of my CORSAR card on my dropbox account, so if I have my phone, I have my card.

Funny....I was just in the process of getting a new card at the Fort Collins REI and texted Britt to find out if he still advocated having one. Lol

Anyway, the dude at REI didn’t know what I was talking about and when he asked about it all they had were two 1-year stickers. No cards. Is that the way it is now? Stickers and having to register them online?
