Thank You North Face

Has anyone seen this PR campaign put out by an oil and gas industry executive? He thanks The North Face for being such a good oil and gas customer. I think the campaign put up billboards also. He makes some good points regarding The North Face's hypocrisy (and hypocrisy of the outdoor industry as a whole).

95% of the outdoor industry is there only to fuel needless consumerism, I'm surprised it's taken this long for as relevant a rebuttal as this. Patagonia is especially obnoxious about it, regardless of how much smoke and feel good vibes they blow.

Awesome response, this guy is totally right. Too many people in this country have built their entire personality around virtue signaling to others about how morally superior they are.

What is hilarious is that if we were to dramatically increase the electrification of everything, hikers and outdoors people would end up being the biggest consumers of petroleum left in this country with our demand for the materials for outdoor clothes and gear.

You may be dramatically underestimating how much plastic is in use.

Honestly this is hilarious. I don’t love the oil and gas industry but will always support calling out the hypocrisy.

Patagonia's marketing tactic as a champion of the environment works for them even though it's hypocritical as hell. At least it works for Chouinard. It made him a billionaire after all.

Strange times indeed when we start relying on oil and gas executives to call out hypocrisy.

Alas, the North Face parent company bought a private jet terminal for their execs. I am sure they buy the "offsets" though, so all is well.
