Jim Disney

Post by dpage »

I just saw that Jim Disney passed away Monday after his battle with cancer. He could always share stories and wonderful insight on peaks in RMNP. He climbed all the peaks in RMNP and his son i believe will finish them on his birthday next year. His artwork is wonderful.

Huge bummer. I never met him in person but certainly knew of his accomplishments in RMNP. His artwork is impressive!

A number of years ago, I found his wallet at the edge of Lamb’s Slide, very close to Chasm Lake. It was at the very edge of the melting ice of the snowfield and being summer, it had obviously been covered by ice. After I descended, I returned it at the Long’s Peak ranger station where the people on duty immediately called him to let him know and put me on the phone with him. As a reward, he sent me a VHS copy of the episode of Mutual of Omaha’s “Wild Kingdom”, hosted by Marlin Perkins, where he was involved in a rescue. If I recollect, the victim had life-saving treatment at the Chasm Lake ranger hut for a severe head wound and Jim told me he doesn’t think that was when he lost his wallet. I remember that it had his ranger ID and his membership card for an artist’s association. RIP James Disney
