Re: Steve Gladbach-Spreading of his Ashes
I've never met Steve, but I will be in the area and would like to pay my respects as well if that is alright with the family and 14ers community.

UPDATE from Nona:
I (Nona Gladbach) finally got confirmation about June 7th. We have reserved the East Maroon Portal Picnic Site from 3 -7 pm on June 7th. Apparently there is a view of Thunder-Pyramid at that site. The idea is for people to gather, Bill Gladbach to speak, friends share stories and then we will head up to the Landing Zone to spread Steve's ashes. If people could bring a snack to share (and a story too!) and BYOB. Also, there isn't drinking water at the site so plan according!
The buses are not going to be running this early in the season however, you may want to carpool as there is a $10 per vehicle fee. There is free parking down at the Aspen Highlands ski area.
Directions: (see photo below)
From Independence Pass, take Highway 82 west from downtown Aspen for a mile to the roundabout. Take Maroon Creek Road 4.7 miles to the Maroon Bells Welcome Station; East Maroon Portal is 1.5 miles past the Welcome Station on the left.
From Glenwood Springs, take Highway 82 for 40 miles to the roundabout. Take Maroon Creek Road 4.7 miles to the Maroon Bells Welcome Station; East Maroon Portal is 1.5 miles past the Welcome Station on the left.
(This East Maroon Portal Picnic area is 2 3/4 miles before you would get to the turnoff into the overnight parking lot up at Maroon Lake.)
GPS Coordinates for the turn into East Maroon Portal Picnic Area:
39.12675, -106.90426
39˙07'36.3"N, 106˙54'15.3"W
NOTE: Nona has asked for a count of how many people from the 14ers.com community will be coming. Would you please RSVP here?

I can't be there in person, but will in spirit.

I will be there in spirit, unfortunately out of the country 6/7.
