Looking for a geezer climber

we're pushing 70 and having the 5 greatest summers of our lives from 2013-2017 in crested butte, we still have dreams of revisiting the ol' stomping grounds. I realize there's a risk of all kinds of potential problems, heart attack, stroke, etc...but the mountains beckon. always. coming from flatland USA, at what age do you draw the line?

With earlier starts and careful weather watching we geezers can still complete a 14'er in a day. This geezer'll be 67 on 3/31/21, and I have several hard ones left: Crestone, Crestone Needle, Wilson, Wilson Peak, Maroon, Eolus, Sunlight, Little Bear, Pyramid and I like repeating ones I've completed. For the last 4 years, I've driven out from home in NY, acclimated in RMNP and then did some peak bagging for 3 weeks or so, in August, so I'll start partner searching in July.

I know lots of people in their 60's, 70's, and 80's who are still very active in the mountains. However I also know some people in those age ranges who have had to scale back their activities due to heart or lung issues. My advice would be to explain to your doctor what you want to do and get a thorough checkup. If there aren't any red flags then go for it.

My wife and I have had some funny anecdotes because we're almost always the oldest on the mountain. A couple of years ago we were climbing Elbert and passed a family not long after the TH. Shortly after that, the father caught up to us all out of breath. He wanted to know how old we were. He said the teens were already whining and he wanted to use our ages to embarrass them!

Last year, also on Elbert, we encountered a 75 y.o. on the summit. He was normally a runner but with everything canceled last year, he and his kid (58) sister decided to hike and climb. As I recall, he made it up in pretty good time.

Also last year, a woman, who is kind of a local legend here in Chaffee County, climbed Huron for her 83rd birthday. Unfortunately, this means us punk 70 year olds have no excuses!

I wish I could join those geezers who are going to climb some 14ers with class 3 and higher, but I cannot due to the fact that my body is not flexible enough to handle. By the way, since I turned 80 last July, I have summited 35 peaks including a dozen of 13ers and 12ers. I am too far away from being retired from mountain climbing, hopefully continuing till 85 or 90. I still dream of summiting a very few more 14ers.
