LOL! Just like everyone I go out with knows who the name Walt Blackadar. And Jim Stohlquist, Rob Lesser, Corran Addison, Tao Berman, Eric Jackson... Household names, one and all!
JChitwood wrote:
I'd say boaters over 40 or so know most of those guys. I met Tao Berman at an REI presentation years ago, Jim Stohlquist and Eric Jackson many times, and made a pilgrimage to Blackadar's grave at the Pioneer Cemetary in Idaho in 2013 after a day on the Canyon Run. I must admit to not knowing Corran Addison.
Yeah, I've boated along with Tao in Gore Canyon and Eric Jackson on the Arkansas with some disabled vets years ago. (Great guys).
Corran Addison is the founder of Riot Kayaks. Led the industry in whitewater boat designs that all manufacturers now seem to have copied in their rodeo/freestyle boats. (short tips, vertical sides, sharp chines, blunt ends, high knees) He has since moved on to designing ocean surfing kayaks and now back to river boats and SUP. I decided to look him up again just now and learned something new on Wiki:
Cool stuff, related to mountains.Corran was one of the first people in the United States to be certified by the National Ski Patrol on a Snowboard. He was a sponsored snowboarder for many years, racing in the Mid Atlantic series for several years.
---but I digress back to the original subject.... I haven't heard of many of these shows. I look forward to looking them up and watching them. Thanks for posting!
