Wineguy finishes the 105
A big shout out to John “wineguy” Golub who wrapped up the Centennials yesterday with a solo climb of Hagerman one week after celebrating his 70th birthday. In addition to his Centennial fun, wineguy is just five summits away from a second trip through the 14ers and has completed the western US state highpoints. He plans on hitting the easier highpoints when he’s...“old.”
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of hiking with wineguy, you know he’s endlessly entertaining and relentlessly positive. Given all he’s accomplished, he’s also super humble, surely the most humble person you’ll ever meet who has a master’s degree in electrical engineering. In fact he’s so humble I hope our friendship can survive my posting this on the site.
Here’s John on the summit of Hager with Snowmass over his shoulder. I don’t know what mountaineering goal wineguy is planning to shoot for next, but don’t bet against him being the first person to finish the bicentennials. At 80.

Great job, John!
I'm glad I got to share a few of these summits with you.
Love seeing your mug on the front page!
Congratulations - it's an especially big effort from out of state!

Congrats, I hope I will be able to keep climbing into my 70's.. Next year my son will be 9, and I hope to get him hooked on mountain climbing, giving him a precious gift more valuable than any amount of money..
