Mt. Rainier from peak/ plane

Post by ryiter »

I summitted Mt. Rainier a few weeks ago. These are photos I took, one from Columbia Crest looking towards Seattle and then the next day, on the plane looking back.

Congrats, Rainier is a beast. About halfway up the thing I realized it's not that much of a joke when folks say that "Rainier" is native language for "big goddamn mountain".

Congrats - and nice plane shot, rare to see it that clearly from the sky.

What's the rectangular flat spot between the wing tip and Rainier?

The flat spot is SEATAC airport. Been out there several times, hiked the Wonderland Trail twice, a top 5 trail in the US in my book! Also a great trail to do to get into shape / acclimate before a summit bid on Rainier.

Very nice!

I fly out there for my attempt on Rainier in three weeks. Cannot wait for multiple reasons! The main one at the moment is so I can stop wearing a weighted pack on the stairmaster. :)

Great peak/plane shot! Not to change the subject too much, but here is my peak/plane shot of another northwest volcano - Mt Hood - just over a year ago. The shots (the summit one looking southwest, the airplane shot northwest) were taken 10 hours apart. We climbed and skied the Pearly Gates route which you can clearly see from the airplane shot.

My father-in-law was planning to visit Mt. Rainier before the pandemic began. He had to cancel it due to obvious reasons.
