What's the story with Mosquito Creek road in the winter?

Post by jibler »

trailhead page says

Mosquito Pass is closed for winter and the Mosquito Gulch road is usually blocked 3 miles in from Highway 9.

but what does that mean?

could someone park at the closed winter gate and walk up from there? is that frowned upon?

your insight appreciated

Yes. You can walk the road if you choose. Here's a ski report. https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/triprepo ... trip=15748

word!

I'm wracking my brain to go somewhere new before the snow really starts falling -- heading up that way seems like an easy win --hopefully!

Unless there's a gate now there didn't used to be. I think by "blocked" it just means "not plowed".

I say this because we drove in a few years back to do Tweto and the other peaks back there in January and were able to drive much farther than 3 miles. It's just a matter of the snow levels (unless there's a gate now).

can you go towards the left up that road towards that mine and the south side of London Mountain?

wondering if that whole road/area is private (mine) property or public?

seems like a nice wrap around London Mountain would be nice jaunt up in there - snow permitting....

I'm pretty sure it's private, and there was somebody mining the tailing piles there a few years back. But you can probably avoid them in the winter. I saw some ATVers running around there last year, and nobody seemed to care.
