Amen to that. I had quite the visceral reaction as I was driving north from Taos towards Ft. Garland on Saturday.

Not a silver lining, and not trying to sound insensitive; but the fire is making for some fascinating photography.

I haven't read this anywhere official, just a facebook page from some folks in the Cuchara area, but they are saying containment has gone up to 35%. Hopefully that is correct, as it would be substantial progress!

Here's a brand new mapping program. There is a detailed fire progression tab and smoke forecast, although the smoke forecast isn't quite working for me on my computer.

Looks like Hwy 160 is going to reopen Saturday at 2pm.

On my way up from TX, Hwy 69 was open at the time (it’s closed to their traffic now). I was able to speak to one of the residents watching the fire come over the ridge. They didn’t seem worried much at the time, but I presume by now they’ve had to evacuate. Image attached is from their property.

Cuchara still stands another day! Only the firefighters are allowed in at this point. A HUGE thank you for their hard work!! This fire truck is parked in front of the Dog Bar. Maybe a well deserved brew?

I've been watching this progress on the fire map

but I haven't read much about what's going on right now.

from the look of it though -- this fire may be pushing towards the spanish peaks? seems like this could really reach a new shitty level if it manages to do that.

They're largely just performing mopup operations at this point. Not a lot of fire activity expected. I think we can feel mostly assured that that any further/significant growth with this fire is done with.
