Longs Parking lot
Looking for advice on what time I need to get to Longs parking lot on a weekend morning in order to get a parking spot. I have been wanting to climb MLW, but hoping I don't need to leave my house at midnight to get a spot.

Re: Longs Parking lot
For a weekend I would suggest 2:30 or 3:00 at the latest. Just did Meeker last Saturday and arrived at 4:00. Had to park about halfway down the entrance road.

Re: Longs Parking lot
On a weekend maybe even earlier. During the week I've pulled in there a dozen times at 3 and lot has been 90% full. It's kind of a crap shoot. I've shown up at 530 some weekends and the parking was down the road already.

Or go after the first dusting of snow. That should scare off a lot of hikers, and MLW is a pretty straightforward summit in all conditions. Besides, photos of the Diamond from atop MLW are all the more striking with a bit of snow on the face. Just my opinions, of course.

Re: Longs Parking lot
I do Longs a lot and normally get there about 5:30 Saturday morning. I've always found a legal spot on the road, although sometimes pretty far down. I know some people like to get there at midnight and beat the storms, but it is a lot more enjoyable for me to hit treeline as the sun is rising.

Re: Longs Parking lot
Thank you all. I was worried it might be getting to the point that there was no legal parking left on weekends. I don't mind walking the road, but waiting for snow sounds like the right idea.
