Skiing: what’s still good?

St. Marys is still skiable.

And nothing else in the area. I don't think there are more than two or three very small patches of snow left above timberline on the entire section of the divide from Berthoud Pass to James Peak. I don't remember ever seeing it as thoroughly melted out as it is this year.

There's actually a small snowfield on Audubon that looks....halfway decent....you know, relatively.

Someone also "groomed" the steep section of St Mary's and it's legitimately slushy -- you can actually get real turns on it.

Skyscraper is still relatively decent, considering. I'd imagine Andrews "Glacier" and Navajo Snowfield are acceptable as well. I personally prefer a 30 minute hike and 45 minute drive to get my turns in the worst part of the season, but to each their own.

A friend just skied Andrews Glacier and called it rough.

Yeah, walking up to St Mary's beer-in-hand after waking up at 11am to get about 15-20 decent turns just seems way more appropriate to me in September than hauling skis all the way up to Andrews. Despite how beautiful the latter area is.

I'm equally curious. I never asked, I was just told adamantly that a lot of work was put into it. There's definitely a long strip of snow that is far slushier than the ice surrounding it, so some sort of effort seems to have been put in.

^THIS^ is how I've found that sliding down that shitty snow can still be a blast nothing like drinking a cold one on some snow-like surface in September in short sleeves to get you stoked for your worst turns of the year :D

Things are getting pretty bare, but I just need one October day and then November will be a breeze and I'll be at 3 consecutive years. I'm thinking I might wait until A-basin opens and take a run, but maybe I'll hike St. Mary's instead. This was a rough year though, I'll say that.

What are you all going to do for October? I know it's snowing now, but it'll probably peter out again and not really be ridable. I'd love to be wrong though.
