Camping along or near Shavano Trail Close to Tree line

Post by dskjolly »

Is there places to camp along the trail? We are wanting to camp on the trail to enjoy some time on the mountain. Coming from Texas.

I know there is camping at 'Angel of Shavano Campground' and found this "if you drive just past the main trailhead for Shavano/Tabeguache, there is a wide open area with a lot of space to camp." Looking for something just below tree line.

This leads to another question. What about parking while one trail? Can you park at trail head for a few days?

Lost our leader and just trying to figure this out. Taking a group of high school students with a wide verity of fitness levels. That is another reason to camp along the trail. Make the summit shorter for those who need it.

Thanks for any guidance.

There is really nice camping right off the trail about 1.5 or 2 miles up the trail. It is in the trees right next to a stream. Its a big area that sees a lot of use. You can park at the trailhead for as long as you want. It's a good size parking lot with lots of room.
I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer.
