Just curious...Torrey’s

Those of you who know the saddle well between Grays and Torrey’s, I have a question. We got to the chute between the saddle which most people hike to go to Torrey’s first. I tried to not slide down, but fell and went full force sliding with not much control. I even thought I dislocated my shoulder from the fall on my ass.
We meet a family and I manage to get out of the way, bc I know anyone going up...get out of their way. My group comes down and moves. The older man in the group starts yelling at the people sliding down to move bc they have the right of way. The people at the top can’t see or hear them and I promise nobody was meaning to be in the way, but once you get going you can’t stop.
Two things we wondered. First, how the hell do people hike up that chute and second, what do people do in this instance. He did tell us that he saw us trying to move and wasn’t yelling at us, but I just thought the whole situation was crazy, especially with kids.

I would just assume he forgot to take his meds and do my best to NOT get out of his way while pretending I cannot hear him.

That short snow "chute" was off-route and took you into a spot where you had to walk off-trail to return to the main Torreys trail. On Saturday, the CFI crews tried to close it off by blocking the top of it with a pile of snow and shoveling a trench across that snow field where the actual trail goes but some people were still trying to slide down that area on Sunday.

I’m confused. Are you saying we went off trail? We tried to avoid that area and walked past it, but had to turn around bc we saw no other area to get down. I felt we had trail the whole way after that? Just educate me if I’m wrong. It’s the only place we saw people going down the saddle, so I assumed that was it.
The workers were just arriving when we went down.

When we were up there a few weeks ago, there was a short chute on the "YES" trail. It was towards the top, and it kind of went diagonal and down. See the last few pics in TR.

We saw the vertical butt trail to the left ("NO" trail), and opted out of that.

I understand that it was the way people were going before Saturday but after CFI shoveled out the correct trail and blocked the top of that chute, people were still going down it on Sunday. I suppose this will continue until that snow melts. The real problem is not that people are sliding on the snow but that it takes you to a stretch of terrain that's off-trail even though many boots have started to beat a path back to the main trail.

Yeah, looking at the pic taken from Torreys, I think that the "small chute" we took a few weeks back was the "NO" route. But, a few weeks back, the snow extended more across the face. So, we didn't have to navigate any significant loose rock.

I think everyone was at that point because there was so much more snow and the trail was covered. Now that CFI shoveled out the actual trail and blocked the chute, it should be more obvious. And once the snow melts, it will be a no-brainer.

Yeah, I think the greater amount of snow a few weeks back, brought the "NO" route closer to the main trail. It didnt' seem like we had to navigate a whole lot of loose terrain. But, I did feel that we were off route for 100 ft or so. But, I could see the main route, so we just navigated towards it.
