Honestly all you need is a single flight of stairs in your home for a pretty good workout. Run up and walk back down them for about 30 minutes. In the coldest periods of winter I've had to resort to this - boring, but you can keep music going easily, and it's a very good workout.
Exercise is incredibly important and hard to stay motivated about when you're stuck inside. Doing something every other day and finding ways to vary it up is something everyone should focus on. Those of us with access to good outdoor areas are quite lucky.

Re: Exercise during the pandemic
Those of you with a shelter in place order, are you still driving to (not crowded) trailheads? Seems unclear to me in the text of the order, but they allow driving for “essential activities” and they list exercise outside as one... (does this mean I can drive out of my city proper Etc.). And yes, I’m absolutely maintaining social distance, have already been hitting metro area trails at an “alpine start” time to avoid droves of people.

Re: Exercise during the pandemic
i'm gonna be tuning up my bikes this weekend. we don't have a shelter-in-place order in my state yet, but it's only a matter of time. the whole bike-to-the-trailhead thing is gonna look a whole lot better when parking lots get closed and there are a lot fewer cars on the road. as long as exercising "from your front door" is allowed, then biking to the trailhead and running/hiking from there should both be covered.geg86 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:36 am Those of you with a shelter in place order, are you still driving to (not crowded) trailheads? Re: Exercise during the pandemic
In Kansas City there is a shelter in place order. They are adamant that we are not under martial law. Leaving your house to exercise is absolutely allowed. I don't believe there is any restriction on how far a person can travel; personally I am staying close. There are slightly more people at hiking and running trails than usual right now, but given the number of people that normally exercise in gyms, not that many more.geg86 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:36 am Those of you with a shelter in place order, are you still driving to (not crowded) trailheads? I fear that, as bad as the physical condition of the average American currently is, it is going to get a lot worse before this is over. Lots of people becoming lounge lizards.
Exhibit A: Pizza Hut is hiring 30 THOUSAND new delivery drivers.

Re: Exercise during the pandemic
I have heard of police or military checkpoints like in Italy and France (yet). Besides I read that everyone knows where they are and takes back roads.geg86 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:36 am Those of you with a shelter in place order, are you still driving to (not crowded) trailheads? Re: Exercise during the pandemic
Per the City of Boulder shelter in place order, you are still allowed to drive somewhere to exercise. Outdoor exercise is considered an essential activity. That said, please don't all show up at the same place, let's disperse the best we can. If you see that parking is full or a trail looks crowded, move on to another place. Go earlier or later in the day.

Re: Exercise during the pandemic
Totally unnecessary IMO in 99% of the US. I hope it doesn't come to the point of police stopping vehicles to ask people where they are going.
Social distancing is the big issue, not traveling within a short distance of one's place of residence. Going to a grocery store is much more likely to spread the virus than driving to a trail and hiking.

This is a document issued by Home Depot to their employees to permit travel. Corporate thinks enforcement of stay at home orders will ramp up.
