Decalibron/Paris Mill parking/camping

Post by greenonion »

Hey Folks - with the gate being closed at Paris Mill for Decalibron/Kite Lake, can anyone give an idea of the parking and camping in a car situation at or near (below) Paris Mill? I’ve camped in my vehicle about a mile below the lake alongside the road but not sure what the current is around Paris Mill. Thanks in advance!

Bump. Nudge. Tug :-D Anyone anyone?

Am betting ok as long as we remain in cars and away from private property signs.

I have no idea, but you could sleep at Hoosier Pass if you're worried.

I drove up there this afternoon. The gate is not closed at Paris Mill, it's closed further up at the privately owned, sometimes operating mine. You can sleep in your car at the mill, camp out south of the mill on FS land, take the road to windy ridge and camp out somewhere along the way. (It hasn't been plowed since the light dusting but it still looked driveable, at least what I could see). You can also park along the road south of the private property and backpack to the lake, or go west and find some flat ground.

And thank you. Very helpful and will look into.

i was up there on Sat, the gate is closed 1.5m from TH. people were parking in front of the gate, thought that was a huge nono....
but the paris mill parking area was plowed and is a large flat spot, we dropped 2 cars there and drove the 3rd up to the gate. we were the firsts ones there at like 7:30am but then it filled a few hrs later, shocked at all the late starts for the 14ers, we were headed to buckskin and loveland and only saw 2 people after us on that route.

If I remember right from last year, there was parking on the side of the road below the private mine by like 1/4. This was near an old mine building that had no signage. There was a sign about entering private property or something to that effect a little bit further up the road from where I parked, but no signage where I parked.

The Sinclair in Fairplay is a truck stop, so while not the classiest option you can stay there, parking in the large lot opposite the pumps. It's safe and during business hours they'll have a bathroom and convenience store for snacks, drinks, etc.
