Capitol from Pierre Lakes

Post by Jorts »

Anyone done it? Beta is sparse. Is there a trail from the snowmass trail up to the lakes and what's the climb up to the clark-cap saddle go at?

Thanks

Tallgas did it but I guess his TR went south with him...

I recall it was less than well traveled and there was some good bush whacking to get up the drainage into the basin.

He has peeps around here he stays in contact with. You might try asking those KC members.

Once in Pierre Lakes, scramble up the wandering Dutchman couloir and join the main route below K2

Think I'll pass on tackling the 5.8 buttress solo, though.

If you're there in springtime snow, you can also go up the Secret Chute at the far end of the knife edge closest to the summit.

If you don't want to take Heckert Pass - it is a big ol' slog, you can take Jackass Pass to go from the Pierre Lakes Basin to the west side of Snowmass. I thought the climb out from Pierre Lakes was pretty steep, loose, and there's a little bit of route finding involved.
