Wow hope you had a big lens. I wouldn’t get anywhere near that bad boy.

Thanks! And yes, the bear was definitely fattening up for the winter.

Ha! No, no big lens. And it’s not that you’re trying to get anywhere near them, it’s that they get near YOU through no choice of your own. In other words, bears (both grizzly and black) are prevalent in that park. Your chances of coming around a bend in a trail and encountering one either right on the trail (or pretty close) or 20-50 yards away are pretty good. Luckily, it’s not like a Hollywood movie where the bear is going to rise up on its hind legs and rip your head off. Are there cases of human-bear contact where injury or death occur (to the human)? Yes, absolutely. But they are not that common and, IMHO, you’re more likely to have a vending machine fall on you and kill you than an encounter with a bear. They (like most animals) really just want to go about their business and not have anything to do with people at all. Take these other animals (also seen during my time in the park) as an example - they are either right on the trail or near it. The key is to not just plod along on these trails, looking down at your boot laces, thinking about what you’re going to be having for dinner, but rather just be vigilant and have a heightened sense of situational awareness.
