Utah climbing rules

Post by Scott P »

I screenshot this off one of the brochures/miniguides for a Utah climbing area we're going to this weekend. Some Utah climbing areas have some unusual rules. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but most of my Colorado climbing friends would be screwed in Utah as far as following the rules go. (No debate; I just thought people outside Utah would find it interesting). :)

I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

No words can express what I think about that - at least while in Utah.

F that.

You should have heard me yesterday descending Olympus every time my head snagged a branch cuz the snow on trail was so deep that it elevated me into said branches.

What about pearl clutching? I'm still allowed to do that, right?

I want to go to there.

I am surprised the F word hasn't worked its way yet into parent-teacher conferences. I hear it everywhere and woman and children being present is no limitation apparently. Not the way my parents raised me.
If you want to converse like a cretin, 99% of the rest of the world seems to be your platform.
"Quicker than I can tell it, my hands failed to hold, my feet slipped, and down I went with almost an arrow’s rapidity. An eternity of thought, of life, of death, wife, and home concentrated on my mind in those two seconds. Fortunately for me, I threw my right arm around a projecting boulder which stood above the icy plain some two or three feet." Rev. Elijah Lamb

Thanks for this perspective. You've given me something to think about. At times I have fallen into this habit too easily as exhibited above. It does seem that particular word is the easy "go to" these days. I won't be an angel all the times going forward, but I can be better. Happy trails to you, and thanks again for sharing your thoughts on this!

It's not just Utah. The case of the "cussing canoeist" happened in my hometown in Michigan several years ago:

I would have expected some guy named Timothy J. Boomer to be the one whining about others cussing instead of having done the cussing themselves.
