Has anyone done this "trail"? Just looking through maps it doesn't seem like much of this is an actual established trail. It seems like a pretty cool route for backpacking/dispersed camping , just curious if anyone has any thoughts?

That's a standard part of the Nolans 14 line. If you look that up you'll find tons of references and several of the members of this site who have finished the route, linking all 14 14ers together (including Justin and I).
