Continue my 15+ year streak of increasing my annual contribution to the Colorado 14er Initiative.
Continue contributing to this website and the Bill Middlebrook Memorial Museum.
Get off my arse and hike.

14ers 2nd lap
14ers calendar grid
14ers sub-summits (almost there!)
13ers - Cents, Bicents, ranked, unranked
14er snowflakes (Frozen Finisher some day??)
13er snowflakes
Zone completions
Great Traverses
Not So Great Traverses
Fun Scrambles
Hard Scrambles
What Was I Thinking!?! Scrambles
Snow climbs
Rock climbs
Climb out of bed
Climb up the walls
Climb into Fort Knox (ok, well maybe not EVERY list...)

To be clear, I'm not really planning to actually finish any of these lists in 2024 (except the 14er sub-summits) - I'm just opening my targets up wider.
Adding one more goal to keep myself accountable:
GET BACK IN SHAPE!!!
I had started weighted pack exercises prior to the holidays then fell flat (in more ways than one, lol). Now I'm coming back with a vengeance - enough dragging myself across the finish line!

Well January has come and gone. I guess that means we should be 1/12 done with our goals. I hope that you are all doing well.

Goal wise, in some ways it was a good month for me and in some ways not. On the plus side I got all 31 days in January for hiking, climbing, and canyoneering. I got 20 peaks in and 3 technical canyons, which is pretty good.

On the minus side, I didn't get any rock climbs (other than one day at the gym) in or any technical towers. My son hurt his knee skiing so I lost my only somewhat steady rock partner. If anyone here wants to any rock climbs and could use a partner, it would be oh so appreciated if we could meet up.

I am working in Aguilar (between Trinidad and Walsenburg) so I am seeing some new territory, but the private land issues are extremely frustrating making hiking and peak ascents limited. It sounds like I will be working in Granby all summer and have already done a lot there in past years, so it might not be that many new ascents for me over the summer (lots of repeats though).

Generic Goals for 2024

As of January 31:

Total Hiking, Climbing, and Canyoneering Days = 350-Currently at 31. I got all 31 days in January and am ahead of schedule. :-D
Total Days Hiking, Climbing, Canyoneering, and Biking Days = 360-Currently at 31. I am ahead of schedule. :-D
Summits Climbed = 150-Currently at 20. I am ahead of schedule. :-D
New Summits Climbed = 60-Currently at 8. I am ahead of schedule, but since I'll be working in Granby this summer and public access peaks are limited where I'm working now (Aguilar), I don't think I'll exceed the goal by much, if it is met. :-D
States to Climb Summits in = 6-Currently at 4 (Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oklahoma). Considering that it's January, I am ahead of schedule. I'll be visiting Oregon, Wyoming, and probably Idaho this summer as well. :-D
Countries to Climb Summits in = 1. An odd goal perhaps, but my goal this year is actually to stay in this county and only visit this one. It will be the first time I have done so in a long time. :-D
Rock Towers/Technical Buttes = 10-Currently at 0. I am behind schedule. Does anyone out there want to do some. Please? :(
Technical Rock or Ice Routes = 30-Currently at 0. I am behind schedule. Does anyone out there want to do some. Please? :(
Gym Climbing Days = 30-Currently at 1. Since I'm working out of town this year I likely won't make this one or come close. :(
Technical Canyons = 30-Currently at 3. I am a bit ahead of schedule, but considering the places I am working this one might be tough. :-D
Biking Days = 30-Currently at 0. I'm not in a big hurry for this one, but I do need to get on my bike this year. :(
Lose Weight in lbs. = 20 (currently at 262)-I haven't weighed myself yet. I hope I didn't gain weight. It's hard to eat healthy when you're on the road all the time. :(

Do any of the above look interesting to anyone out there? I could use some partners. For technical routes, I'd be open to joining others on climbs of their choice as well.

Check mark on the truck, I’ll replace that goal with wrapping up the majority of my remaining bicentennials \:D/ brownie point goal of riding another technical couloir this spring.

I’d like to ski some more 13ers and hopefully some San Juan 14ers if the snow is good. In the summer time I’ve been enjoying doing some longer day link up stuff, would like to try berthoud to James peak and back this year, and Loveland to guanella pass. Also, been enjoying taking the kids out on some of the 14ers, it’s been fun redoing a bunch of those peaks that I haven’t done in like 20 years, kind of like doing them for the first time again.

I have my annual goal of 100 days, 1000 miles, 100,000 vert that I have been tracking but am way behind this year due to plantar fasciitis which sucks.

Maybe you're not interested, but if you want to do the former as a car shuttle, let me know. I'll be working at Granby May through September.

2-3 early season conditioning slogs in the tenmile/mosquito range
Snow-climb something -- maybe Lackawanna (or Cathedral if someone can teach+tolerate a slow newbie)
4th annual solo 4th of July backpacking trip --maybe Stewart or Phoenix? Away from the crowds (priority)
backpacking trip in the middle Cimarron with a friend (priority)
random weekend sawatch daytrip with ALL the crowds
random lake hikes on easy weekends
Vermilion+Golden Horn
Arrow+Trinity Traverse (or at least Middle and East, since I've done West) (priority)
Silex+Storm King+Guardian (may need a 4WD angel)
Something in the Needles area of the Weminuche?
Something in the Bells -- probably Belleview or a 3-peat on North Maroon
Some non-crazy 13er in the Gores
Tenmile Traverse?

Finally have a formal celebration for finishing the 14ers in 2023?
Stop being so list-ambitious and do more crowded hikes+help friends with their lists (priority)

oh, and re-study all the WFA course things that I forgot over the past 1/2 year
I have a 4x4 and have always wanted to do storm king/guardian. I'll hit you up later this year

My goal is to summit at least one 14er this year!

I summited Longs Peak and Holy Cross last summer then had an unfortunate bouldering incident (ACL + meniscus tear). Had surgery December 2023, now recovering. It's great to have a goal to shoot for to push through the PT and frustrations with recovery.

Same as always:

1) Climb mountains.
2) Don’t die on said mountains.

jrbren_vt wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2023 11:01 am 1.) Not break any bones
2.) Average 10K' vertical hiking per month by the end of the year
3.) Climb a bunch of peaks, targeting mostly 12ers, 13ers and 14ers within a ~2-2.5 hour drive of COS. Stuff that was on my 2023 coveted peak list that I didn't do because of my broken fibula in June.
4.) Climb Mt Rosa from N.Cheyenne Canon in each month of the year, I need December (will do this month), Feb, July, August and September. The latter 3 are harder because that's when I want to go to bigger above tree-line peaks).
5.) Peaks of highest interest right now: I want to do a Sawatch blitz of 13ers and 14ers I have not done yet. Silverheels, Humbolt, Bierstadt, Blue Sky, Spread Eagle, Peak of the Clouds, Fluted Peak, Rito Alto, Little Horn via East ridge, Sangre 13ers north of Marcy, Parnassus, Bard, Pettingell, Citadell (?), James Peak, Parry Peak, Bancroft peak, Longs (?), Wheeler Peak (NM) . It's not my goal to do all of these in 2024, just this is the list I will be selecting most of my hikes from.
6.) Anything on my dashboard right now.
7.) May be one or two trips to the western part of the state for Sneffels or Uncompahgre ?
8.) Stuff I have not thought of yet that will likely come up as the year goes on.

I agree with the comment earlier about not setting too stringent goals that don't leave time for anything else.
As month #2 comes to a close, not off to a great start. I should have been more specific about not breaking any bones this year and just said no injuries. I sprained my knee in early February, no idea how, which wiped out this month for hiking. Consequently I will not get my February Mt Rosa from N. Cheyenne Canon hike in this year. I am heeling slowly and now can go on 20+ mile bike rides, but hiking is still a couple of weeks off at least. Most of my goals will be May-Oct, so not so bad in the big picture. Still under 10K' vertical hiking for the year, but will make that up in the warmer months. I hope others have been able to get out, looks like it has been tough anyway due to the storms seem to all fall on Friday and Saturday this year, reminiscent of my days in Vermont (the old riddle is, what always comes after 2 rainy days in Vermont ? Ans - Monday). Cheers.
