Have you forgot about your google skills, Capt?
And, really, you're asking that question?

I know one for sure (I was there for his final 4 summits, and we've hiked nearly a dozen together), and a couple more LGBT hikers who I can't recall if they're all the way through the 14ers or not. I'd be happy to reach out to him and see if he'd have any interest in being put in touch. I'm not in the habit of publishing anyone's sexual orientation online, though, and I think that's probably similar for others on the site. That's probably my best guess as to why you're not getting specific examples so far. Anyway, best of luck in your search! I'm sure that there's a dataset out there somewhere.

Finisher from 2014 here. :horns: We're out there! And there are more on the way.

Also, reminder that it's basic human psychology to want to have things in common with others and to have a sense of belonging within a group. If cis-het people could please refrain from saying it's "lame" that this question was asked, that'd be great. Don't talk down to us - thanks. And I just realized the original post and obnoxious replies are from 2022, but my point still stands.

+1, nicely put. This comment and Erin's are the only relevant responses on this thread. Kind of sad that the OP got nothing but demeaning responses for two years.

I don't think the OP got demeaning responses at all. And no-one was talking down to anyone (I think?). On top of that, the OP did not give a sexual orientation or reason why.

I just think its just a non-issue. The community accepts whoever regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, bad grammar, or food preferences. Its not an issue so don't make it one.
- I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was blaming you.

Exactly! And the mountains and the outdoors is what this group of people all have in common here!

This has massive "white man claims we live in a post-racial society because he has never experienced racism" energy. You don't know the experience of others, and what it is like to live in their skin. You are one of the people who posted a demeaning comment about what a "lame" post this was in the first place.

Just go ahead and claim the title

Or if there already have been LGBT finishers, claim to be the first "solo" one

Your "+34 What a lame post" comment... : /

I have a friend who runs an Instagram account that just posts about queer people hiking/mountaineering/etc. These posts are -- when they make it outside the queer community -- met with an overwhelming barrage of incredibly dispiriting negative comments along the general lines of "Why are you talking about this, no one cares? Also, I'm so accepting."

No one posts these comments about posts related to any other affiliation group. No one tells folks posting about hiking while being a parent/grandparent/woman (or with) that their posts/questions about it are "irrelevant", nor would you see comments like this when people discuss climbing with a group of co-workers, nor to a group of folks with vision/physical impairments, etc.

"Curious if anyone has ever done all the 14ers as a duo with their grandkid." "I'm sure someone has, but it's irrelevant, what a lame post." See any difference?

If you're so accepting of queer climbers, you could've just not said anything, instead of telling folks talking about queer climbers their conversation is lame. Comments like that bum me out every time I see them.

Yes, I am one of them.

Statistically speaking, out of the ~3000-ish 14er finishers over the years, that's a few of us. As life would have it, given the estimate of about 5 % of the population identifying as LGBT, that's a lot of us (~17M in the US, which is the size of the LA metropolitan area), and simultaneously very few of us (one or two in your average high school classroom). I think it's human nature to seek out people who have something in common or shared experiences.

We all don't have to be hyper queer like Pattiegonia, but one should be able to read subtext.

Maybe to make a better point, hyper-hetero is pretty rampant when it comes to outdoor pursuits, most especially when by and large there's a bunch of dudes hanging out with each other. Straightness is undoubtedly advertised, be it policed by the cars driven, the colors worn, the type of activity, etc, etc.

If the reverse isn't true - queerness being well: very out, it may be because of the fear of rejection of a common hobby, or the threat of violence.

Absolutely fascinating. I wonder if any academic papers have been written about it.
