Highways 34 and 36 closed due to fire

Post by daway8 »

Just FYI, for now mostly only affects easy access to Longs from Fort Collins/ Loveland but hard to say how it might grow.

Gonna be a wild summer for fires - already is west of here. Extended forecast looks to be hot and dry af, luckily not much wind. Reminder to all that we'll be recreating in a tinder box this summer and extra caution is warranted.

Oh wow. I was hiking in RMPN yesterday when the Alexander Mountain fire blew up. It was insane how quickly it developed - looked like an atomic bomb had gone off within 40 minutes of it being reported. I had to go through Lyons to get back to Denver since Hwy 34 was closed. If they have to shut down 36 because of this new fire, it's going to be tough getting to the park from the metro area.

Second Lyons fire close to Hwy 36. Possibly will have to use peak2peak road to access Longs/RMNP then.

Sounds like the announcement was just made that 36 is closed at the intersection with 66 in Lyons.
