Would the FAA have to step in to keep lazy ass people from jetpacking to the top of Quandary?
You may say this in jest, but several years ago the Haute Savoie regulations for Mont Blanc in Chamonix were hastily revised to state that flying paragliders to the summit and landing on the summit were henceforth prohibited. Apparently a very strong thermal wind allowed a lot of paragliders to fly up from Chamonix to the summit, and the provincial governor decided that was a safety hazard.

OK - I am being overly generous here -- but there is a follow up to that tidbit re: chatfield dam.

I think repeated hikes up the rocky side of the dam over the last 5 years or so has made me into a scree climbing master??

I see the whole thing as a sort of 'artificial mountain' - since when you come at the dam from the rocky side you actually get good view to the north when reaching the top.

but i'm noticing my scree skills are really at the top of their game right now. last year coming down on democrat i was dancing along other people trudging through this rock field.

and then yesterday - I friggin blazed across the Pauite / Audobon saddle - it was a breeze.

and i think my balance has been helped that much more by the dam! so get a nice walking stick, work on your scree skills - and who knows maybe we'll run into each other some day. I'm the only one doing this.

"The Uncanny Accuracy of Caltopo"

I go to that hill up behind the columbine memorial a lot these days. Best view in littleton.

But the keen eyed will see that when you reach the very top - you cannot see Pauite anymore. But you can almost most of the way up. And caltopo knows that!

Whole metro area is a bowl of ozone and smoke. A bowl that is spilling over at the edges!!

Evergreen and Blackhawk showing super high ozone. i don't think it usually travels up that high - right?

I wonder where this is ranking in all time denver bad air. we have got to be competitive for all time worst.

Hey just to put this out there into 14ers space.....again.........

The Over Yonder Brewery in Golden next to Red Rocks does phish webcasts and they make for a great combo when you get a nice foothill hike in beforehand. Shows friday and sat this weekend.

Hit me up if going this weekend. Could be improptu 14er social event of the summer?

and speaking of smoke above - my spidey sense tells this weekend may be nicest air for like 2 weeks. Makes this weekend a Gotta Jibboo as they say.

They also do live music and yes your precious billy strings webcasts too. What i really want is to see a king gizzard webcast. when are those coming?

yeah i do an extra loop up there when i do it just to clock enough mileage to make it a thing.

but this place is on Peakfinder - that gives it some degree of epicness in my book. and is better than walking near road up at daniels park.
