All fourteeners

Post by travissatterlee77 »

Hello, I'm wondering if there is an equivalent site or recommended source for 14er + hikes in California, Washington, and Alaska.

If you buy 5 t-shirts from the site, Bill might add a subsection for other states on here. I for one would enjoy more diversity in regional personalities in the forums :-D

Summitpost has pretty good pages on the California 14ers and Mt Rainier. I've also used Cascade climbers & this blog: www.shedreamsofalpine.com/blog/california-14er for planning trips up those peaks. Plus a lot of really good trip reports on this site.

The American Alpine Journal and the Mountaineering Club of Alaska (membership required) are your best bet for getting info on Alaska 14ers, but outside of Denali there is very little beta on the rest of them, mostly because of how rarely they are climbed.

In short, no. But for Whitney and the Sierra you can look at Whitney Portal or Whitney zone sites.

I used two books for CA 14ers. RJ Secor's The High Sierra (peaks, passes, and trails) is a great, detailed resource. I also used Porcella and Burns Climbing California 14ers as well. Rainier is a whole other animal. If you're not experienced I would hire a guide. I used Mike Gauthier's book Mount Rainier a Climbing Guide along with Internet, beta from those who had climbed, Ranger Station info and anything I could get my hands on.
